San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation, Inc. elects officers for 2009
San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – February 23, 2009 – San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization formed in January 2009 for the purpose of lawfully accepting gifts of cash and land to preserve and enhance open space in San Juan Capistrano, has elected its Board of Directors for 2009. The foundation will work in conjunction with the City of San Juan Capistrano’s Open Space Committee to further open space preservation efforts through donations.
Newly elected officers include: Sherriff Brad Gates (Ret.), president; Dick Paulsen, vice president; Sheldon Cohen, treasurer; Colleen Edwards, secretary. Directors include: Marlene Draper, Matt Gaffney, Larry Kramer, Tim Neely, Mayor Mark Nielsen, and Tom Ostensen. All Board members are current residents of San Juan Capistrano.
“Seventy percent of San Juan Capistrano voters voted yes on Measure Y last November, expressing their commitment to the preservation and maintenance of open space in our historic town,” commented Sherriff Gates. “San Juan Capistrano has been able to retain its unique character throughout the years because many passionate people have unified behind a goal that benefits all. The Foundation presents an opportunity for every citizen to get involved at any level they are comfortable with, from a small cash contribution to a major land donation.”
The funds raised by the Foundation will be separate and distinct from Measure Y funds, which the City administers. Foundation funds will further advance the open space cause above and beyond the bond measure. Foundation donors will receive a tax write-off.
In the coming months, the Planning Subcommittee of the City’s Open Space Committee will be sharing potential improvement plans for key portions of the open space the City currently owns. Residents are encouraged to attend the City’s monthly open space meetings to get up-to-the-minute information on open space preservation, or get news updates by visiting the City’s Open Space web site at http://www.sanjuancapistrano.org/openspace.
San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization.
