Welcome summer! With the sunny days upon us, our city's open space is the perfect place to spend a day enjoying the great outdoors. The Northwest Open Space, Dr. Joe Cortese Dog Park, 2C Ranch Staging Area, and Reata Park and Event Center are popular destinations for residents and visitors. The San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation has worked over the years to provide improvements to these areas to make them safe and accessible for visitors to enjoy hiking, picnicking, biking, horseback riding, or simply relaxing and appreciating the native flora and fauna. The parks are open daily and admission and parking are free.

Reata Park is a beautiful location for weddings and  other events
Looking for a unique location for your next event? Reata Park has indoor and outdoor areas that can be rented for larger groups, making it a great location for special events. Since the beginning of the year, several events have been held at the park, such as weddings, milestone birthday parties, a celebration of life, family reunion, baby shower, first communion, community classes, and weekly church group meetings. The guest lists ranged from 10 to 200 people, proving Reata Park is a perfect spot for events of nearly any size.

Hosting an event at Reata Park is a great way to enjoy our public open space, and rental fees go to the city to help with park maintenance and other community services. The City of San Juan Capistrano manages reservations for all city parks. To reserve your next event at Reata Park and Event Center, please call the city's Community Services Coordinator Gil Leon at (949) 443-6393. For more information on all city parks, please visit the City of San Juan Capistrano's website

Public Tours, Free Summer Movies and Equestrian Events Offered at Riding Park
The Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano held two popular public tours in June that showcased the impressive park. Purchased at below market price from the city's open space funds, the RMV Riding Park at SJC is a key part of a property that now includes the Reata Park and Event Center. Approximately 80 people toured the facilities and learned about the park's rich history, layout, accessibility to the public, and annual calendar, which includes several free public events. The RMV Riding Park at SJC is a premier show jumping facility and was the site for past Olympic trials. The park's president is the current US Olympic Show Jumping coach and is taking a team to Rio (most of the riders on the team have competed at one time at the RMV Riding Park at SJC). Attendees enjoyed the tours and gained a better understanding of this accessible park located conveniently in our community.

There are many more free public events planned at the RMV Riding Park at SJC this summer:

Bring the whole family and enjoy outdoor movie nights with showings of Inside Out on August 6th and Zootopia on August 20th. Adults will enjoy dinner and a movie under the stars with a showing of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 on September 17th, with food and drinks on sale from Sol Agave starting at 6:00 pm. All movies begin at roughly 7:45 pm and guests are encouraged to bring blankets, beach chairs, and a picnic or snacks (no smoking, glass containers or outside alcohol allowed). Admission and parking are free to the public. For more information, please call (949) 234-1695 or (949) 234-1696.

Enjoy free access to equestrian competitions this summer
Enjoy top equestrian competition, free parking and admission at three summer grand prix show jumping events at the RMV Riding Park at SJC! The free public events will be held on August 21st at 2:15 pm, September 18th at 3:00 pm, and September 24th at 3:00 pm. All times are approximate, so please visit showpark.com for updates.

All events will take place at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano, 30753 La Pata Road, San Juan Capistrano.
