Brad Gates, President
Brad Gates is a California native, born and raised in Orange County. He joined the Orange County Sheriff's Department in 1961, and was ultimately elected Sheriff-Coroner in 1974. In his 24 years as Sheriff-Coroner, Brad managed a law enforcement agency involving over 3,000 employees, a budget of close to $400 million and the 11th largest jail system in the United States. During the Orange County bankruptcy in 1994, Brad was appointed Chairman of the Operations Management Council. In this capacity, he coordinated the day-to-day operations of the county and made key decisions that helped guide it to a full recovery. Now retired, his legacy of exemplary service, groundbreaking innovations and outstanding leadership continue to have a positive and long-lasting impact on Orange County and its law enforcement system.

Demonstrating his caring through involvement, Brad has donated thousands of hours to non-profit organizations. He is President of the SJC Open Space Foundation, of which he is a founding director. Prior to this, he served on the SJC Open Space Committee for five years. Brad has served on the Board of Directors of nearly a dozen other corporate and non-profit entities, and has received numerous awards in recognition for his professional, civic and humanitarian achievements.
